3DIt always begins with a spark: a thought, a feeling, something which seems to have the power to move our very core and pushes us to stop and think, to conceive, to plan…do things, achieve more.

In a world that glorifies the busy, we rarely find the time to stop and ponder. We are so busy being distracted by the internet (which is not a bad thing in itself, I must add) that we seem have lost that which is essential to the core of any human – inspiration.

The result is a lot of people living lives filled busy work but not quite achieving much in the true sense of the word.

It is with this in mind that I have written my latest book titled:

Boss Bible: Daily Wisdom to Inspire the Successful Lifestyle in Every Achiever and Entrepreneur

Boss Bible is a collection of 413 inspiring quotes from the likes of billionaires, business moguls, successful entrepreneurs, renowned thought leaders, well-known and respected TV personalities, world-famous poets and innovators. You’ll also find thought-provoking, meaningful, actionable words from the venerable queen of messaging and authenticity, Oprah.

It is just the tool you need to inspire you to reach for success, to give you hope, wisdom, and power when it may seem there might not be any. It will empower you and help you to create a better mindset to become the ultimate achiever and an all-round happier person. These quotes are not going to magically transform you into an overnight billionaire, but they will help you to build habits that will change your life and, hopefully, guide you on your journey to success, no matter what discipline you choose.

The quotes are short and concise (just perfect for the busy and not so busy person) and based on the feedback I have received, you would find it hard to stop until you have reached the end.

Boss Bible launches on 30 June, 2016 (a little over a week from now) but you can preorder your kindle copy which would be delivered directly to your device, by using the following links:

Amazon US: goo.gl/tZIXEw

Amazon UK: goo.gl/D1NXPc

Jumia NG: https://goo.gl/4oDvSD.

Or just type in the words “Boss Bible” into your Amazon search button as well as that of any book online retailer regardless of where you are located.

To get the first 10% of the book sent to your email completely free of charge, fill in your details using this link

I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Have an awesome new week ahead.

Love,

Chika

I Started with Water

i started with waterI was sitting at my desk this morning, about to start my day when I glanced at my gorgeous plant. It was given to me about 2 years when we were rounding off a project for a company I worked for.

I remember when Jane, my Manager gave me the plant. I was super clueless regarding what to do with it. I had very little experience with plants and till now, I don’t even know what it is called. Also, I was commuting to work so I wasn’t sure if I could handle the responsibility of taking care of another living thing (taking care of myself is difficult enough lol!).

However, I took it on. What was the worst that could happen? The plant would die and I would feel like a terrible person for a period of time. Right? Maybe. But, as time passed by, I kept caring for it (mainly watering it) but I didn’t feed it with food cos come on, I don’t even know the name of the plant so how would I know what plant food to use?

I have an orchid plant food for my orchid which I posted about some time ago, but I suspected that it may not work for “Plant Unknown”. Also, as a typical naija girl…emmm, we typically don’t have time to care for plants.

Long story short, the plant is still alive and thriving. I eventually started feeding it with an all purpose plant food from #wilko just 2 months ago and I think it is doing alright **raises shoulders**.

The point of this post is this: sometimes, you may be thrown into endeavours or have an idea which you fully don’t understand how to tackle or implement, don’t wait till you have all the information or you may starve the #idea or bin it or worse, reject it. Start with what you have, stay conscious and as time goes on, more ideas will come to your consciousness and hopefully, you will recognise and implement them and then be blessed every morning with something as gorgeous as this little plant.
I started with water, what will you start with?

Have a brilliant and fulfilling day.

At around 5.40 am on Friday, my internal alarm clock woke me up. As i stretched and proceeded to have the usual internal argument with myself as to whether to go back to bed for another 20 minutes, my hands stretched to the left side of my bed and my fingers felt and grabbed my phone. The lights of the phone  came on after a few uncoordinated swipes and I proceeded to wait the one or two seconds it usually took for my eyes to adjust to what I was looking at. Vision all cleared up, I was looking at a push notification from The Guardian News: Britain had voted to leave the European Union.

What followed was a mixture of instant panic and sheer disbelief and as you can imagine, any hope of going back to bed withered away like darkness flees in the sight of light as I tried to comprehend how anyone would have imagined that this was a good idea. A part of me wondered whether I was dreaming and I blinked twice – just in case.

As the minutes quickly  turned to hours, it was clear that this was not a drill and the people had chosen.

I immediately took to twitter to spell out what my understanding of the implications of the whole thing was and to my comfort my thinking was not far from what thought leaders and other entrepreneurs were thinking: “We have got a real shit show on our hands mate” .

As 12 noon rolled on, it became clear that all plans of achieving anything remotely fruitful were a mere wish, i stumbled upon the quote from Heraclitus which i had created earlier in the week to post on my Instagram and Facebook fan page.

Reading it gave me some peace and i managed to have a few laughs at the entire situation.

It is still not clear what Britain’s future in the European Union is, I hear there are calls for another referendum. (I am yet to see how feasible that would be).

What is clear to me however, is that there needs to be a real change in the way political messages are passed on to the ordinary man or woman. All these cunning untruths and smart play on people’s inclination towards xenophobia are not necesary, neither are they helpful in the grand scheme of things because in the end, your children and their children would be forced to live with the consequences of whatever decision you make and a secluded Britain or England (I hear that Nicola Sturgeon is planning a new Scottish Referendum) would not help anyone.

Another thing is clear: we need to read more and not just ‘vote with our hearts’ or ‘take our country back’ especially when that country no longer has the luxury of colonies serving it, as it did in the past. Surely, if your heart tells you that a shark looks pleasing enough to swim with you would immediately ignore it and proceed to put as much distance between you and the shark, as possible. So why ‘vote with your heart’ on something as key as this without reading up properly or even easier, asking the right questions to the key messengers?

I am not a political analyst and l hardly write post related to politics but this one got me really riled up and I hope it is sorted out soon.

While it is being sorted out, this situation presents the perfect opportunity for emerging economies to get their act together and flourish.

In the end, I believe we will all be fine.

I hope you have a pleasant Sunday and an even more pleasant week ahead.

Love,
Chika

A saint in heaven by Paulo Coelho

‘Why is it that some people can resolve the most complicated problems really easily, whilst others agonize over every tiny crisis and end up drowning in a glass of water?’ I asked.

Ramesh replied by telling the following story:

‘Once upon a time, there was a man who had been the soul of kindness all his life.
When he died, everyone assumed that he would go straight to Heaven, for the only possible place for a good man like him was Paradise.

The man wasn’t particularly bothered about going to Heaven, but that was where he went.
Now in those days, service in heaven was not all that it might be.

The reception desk was extremely inefficient, and the girl who received him gave only a cursory glance through the index cards before her and when she couldn’t find the man’s name, she sent him straight to Hell.

And in Hell no one asks to check your badge or your invitation, for anyone who turns up is invited in. The man entered and stayed.

Some days later, Lucifer stormed up to the gates of Heaven to demand an explanation from St Peter.

“What you’re doing is pure terrorism!” he said. “You sent that man down into Hell, and he’s completely undermining me! Right from the start, there he was listening to people, looking them in the eye, talking to them.
“And now everyone’s sharing their feelings and hugging and kissing. That’s not the sort of thing I want in Hell! Please, let him into Heaven!’

When Ramesh had finished telling the story, he looked at me fondly and said:

‘Live your life with so much love in your heart that if, by mistake, you were sent to Hell, the Devil himself would deliver you up to Paradise.’

Okay, over to today’s post:

I have spent a lot of time thinking about the habits that differentiate successful people from regular people. What do they do that gives them the extra edge over the rest of us? My search has led me to listen to a number of interviews featuring some people I really admire. It was through this search that I stumbled upon an article written by By Samantha Thornhill which lists 20 daily rituals of the most badass women. It is important to point out that even though this post refers to badass women, the rituals are not limited to only females and can be practised by anyone despite their gender. I have listed 10 of them below: Ps:  I liked number 7 the most.

1. Watch the sunrise

Not literally, but maybe. Most successful women are up by 6 a.m. Business leaders are said to accomplish more in those early hours than the average person does in days. This means getting to bed early too, since sleep deprivation went out of style along with shoulder pads.

2. Have gratitude

We so easily forget what a miracle it is to be alive. Let each day birth you into a state of gratitude for the day ahead, and give thanks for everything that you have.

3. Imbibe

Coffee, green juice, green tea, rooibos, chai, smoothies, hot chocolate, water with lemon, wine, whatever. Without exception, every badass woman alive begins or ends her day with a drink. (I personally drink green tea. It tastes absolutely yucky but it is filled with anti-oxidants which are very good for you.)

4. To-do list, check

Walking through the day in your mind or writing a list of things you hope to accomplish is incredibly centering, and it’s so gratifying to cross things off as you go along (I can vouch for this one. It truly works wonders).

5. Be mindful

Artist and social entrepreneur Rha Goddess tells “Gala” that she sees personal transformation everywhere: “In every interaction. Every conversation. Every intention. If we’re awake we recognize we have the opportunity – every single moment of the day – to heal, transform or affirm something about the truth of who we are, and what we say is important,” she states.

6. Just like water

Swim. Drink eight glasses. Splash it on your face. Dunk your weary bones in a full tub with Epsom salts. Have an ongoing love affair with our world’s most precious resource.

7. Position yourself

Arianna Huffington, who champions 7-8 hours of sleep a night, wouldn’t be much good to anybody if she didn’t poise herself for the bustling day ahead. She tells Soulcyle: “A big part of my morning ritual is about what I don’t do: when I wake up, I don’t start the day by looking at my smartphone. Instead, once I’m awake, I take a minute to breathe deeply, be grateful, and set my intention for the day. ” (Awesome right?)

8 Get energetic

Most of us will not spend two hours a day working out like Gwyneth Paltrow, but no matter when we get it in, anywhere between 15-45 minutes of exercise a day releases stress and clears the dome…and let’s not forget to stretch! The world’s most successful women get their best ideas during exercise or right after.

9. Be promiscuous with books

According to the “Los Angeles Times,” reading on your cell phone or iPad before bed can affect sleep habits by sending signals to the brain to stay alert. Lena Dunham says she keeps a stack of books by the bed. Fall asleep reading.

10. Plug out

If you are the type to fall asleep face first on a glowing screen, it’s good for the soul to plug out sometime—even if it’s just to put your phone to bed along with you.

I hope you enjoyed reading through the list and picked up some tips from it. Which of them did you find that you already practice and which ones you plan to take up? To read the full list from femde.com, click here

5 ways to spot a catfish account on Facebook

catfish 2

As part of my marketing efforts to generate interest for my novel, Twisted in a Positive Way, I have been doing some social media promotion, as well as answering interview questions from other bloggers. As a result of this, I have also gained more Facebook friends and few more Twitter followers.

One of such Facebook friends was a man I will call Gerard Smith for the purpose of this post. (Apologies to all the actual Gerard Smiths out there)

So Gerard Smith added me on Facebook, I checked his profile and saw that we had two mutual friends so I accepted his invite. Not long after accepting his invite, he made a nice comment about one of my pictures so I checked out his profile and saw that he had only 5 pictures, all of which seemed very recent. I thought that was odd, but decided not to think too much about it.

Later, he sent me a message wanting to know how my day went and I replied, asking how he knew me because I could not recognise him.

Gerard responded stating he did not know me but saw my picture and “liked” me. In my head, I was wondering how someone could possibly like someone without knowing the person. Surely that person could turn out to be a serial killer. So I replied with “fair enough”.

One thing that was very obvious from our chat was that Gerard had a poor command of English, often using “were” in place of “where” and “your” instead of “you are” amongst other mistakes.

When I asked where he lived and he replied “uk”, I then checked his profile again and it stated his location as Clapham, Lancashire. Still something didn’t seem right so I asked what part of UK he lived in and he replied, “clapham”.

Now, I know of two different places called Clapham here in the UK. One in London and another, in the North Yorkshire region.

Still, I wanted to test Gerard, so I asked him where Clapham was located and he stopped replying.

He finally replied the following day with just one word, “south”. This got me thinking, surely someone who lives in Clapham, Lancashire should know that Lancashire is not in the south.

At this point, I had all the evidence I needed to prove that our friend Gerard was a catfish and an unintelligent one at that.

Based on my very brief experience, there are 5 quick ways to spot a catfish.

  • The person has only 4 or 5 pictures on Facebook

Facebook has been around for long enough for people to have more than a few pictures on it so if someone adds you and he or she has only very few pictures on it, this should be a flag. You should even be more worried if all the pictures appear to have been posted recently and within a short period of time. This shows that the profile was created hurriedly.

Dot Con: The Art of Scamming a Scammer

  • The person has poor command of English

If the person sending you messages on Facebook has a very poor command of English, this usually points to the fact that the person is located in a different region (perhaps a non-English speaking region) from where the person is claiming to be based.

  • The person does not appear to know much about his location

This points to the fact that the person doesn’t live there at all. Surely you should know where the city you live in is located.

  • The person uses endearing words too quickly

If a person you accepted his invite immediately starts saying he likes you or starts professing feelings for you, then this should be a massive red flag. I have heard of love at first sight, but surely not that fast.

  • The person has very little limited information on his/her profile

This point is self-explanatory.

In the end, use your intuition and if something does not seem right, don’t be afraid to use the block button because in the end, it is better to be safe than to be sorry.
